Blog 9 - Advisory Prep 3

Death Investigators are also known as Forensic Pathologists, or Coroners.

1.State whether or not you currently have a mentor, and what the status of your interview is with that person (I have completed the interview, I have scheduled the interview, I have not scheduled the interview, etc).

  • I currently have a mentor. Her name is Sheri Orellana and she is a crime scene investigator. I scheduled the interview for this week. However due to a situation that came up I had to reschedule to next week.
2. At this point, your research is probably guiding your studies toward more specific areas within your topic.  Name the area or two you find most promising and explain your reasons.

  • Within my topic there are two areas I am considering. The first one is "crime scene photography", and the second one is "death investigations". The main reason I chose crime scene photography is because it is one of my mentors specialities, and it would make my life that much easier. Also I find it to be one of the more interesting areas of crime scene investigation. The main reason I choose death investigation is because it came  a lot in my research, and I found it interesting.
3. What kinds of sources do you think will help you in the next month to gain more research depth?  Where will you go to get them?

  • More articles and texts on pathology. Since some of these are medical texts finding these online will be difficult. So I will have to go to the CPP Library to gain access to these kinds of materials.
4. Write down a possible EQ.  Please don't worry about wording other than ensuring that it provides the option for multiple correct answers.  At this point, the senior team is most interested in understanding your thought process.

  • What is the most important stage in a death investigators process?
  • What speciality or area of expertise is the most useful to a death investigator?
