Blog 10 - Interview 2 Reflection

Please explain how you are spending your mentorship time (Is it at a workplace or somewhere else?  Are you shadowing?  Are you able to do tasks that are meaningfully related to the topic?  If so, what?  Are there other people who are experts in the location?  Etc...)
  • I am mentoring at the Pomona Police Station. I am able to do tasks meaningful to my topic, usually I shadow my mentor in her day to day business. Ill help her package evidence, and ask her questions about anything we may be doing that day. I look at case files, and see the Forensics involved. My mentor is also going to be teaching me how to do stuff such as shoe imprints, crime scene photography, and processing a crime scene start to finish. There are two other experts that my mentor works with, they are also crime scene investigators, and I also learn from them as well during mentorship.
How did you find your mentor?  How did you convince this person to help you?
  • At first I had no idea where I was going to find a mentor. I then took a forensics class, and I met my mentor there. I talked to her after the class, and the person running the class introduced me. I talked to my soon to be mentor honestly and upfront, all I did was explain my project and asked if she would like to be my mentor. My mentor has worked with other I-Poly students and is familiar with my school so she said yes.
How would you rate your comfort level with your mentor at this point in your relationship?  How does this relate to the time you've spent so far at mentorship/with this person
  • My comfort level with my mentor is a t about a 8 1/2 out of 10. She is really nice and everything, my comfort level simply stems from my anxiety. I've spent about 10 hours with my mentor, plus the summer hours, so I would say my comfort level is slowly increasing.
What went well in this interview?  Why do you think so?  What do you still need to improve?  How do you know?  How will you go about it?
  • I thought this interview went pretty well. I enunciated my words clearly, and was able to ask follow up questions. I still need to improve the wording of my questions, this was because sometimes I would say a question and my mentor was unsure of what I was asking. I will fix this simply by elaborating more when I ask my questions, and then re-word the phrasing so it is more descriptive.
