Blog 11: Lesson 1 Reflection

My face after my first lesson.

1. What are you most proud of in your lesson, and why?

  • Im mostly proud of how I didn't blank out or have a very long awkward pause during my presentation. As a freshman I would pace a lot during my presentations, and if I forgot something I would just blankly stare trying to remember it. I did however forget one bit of important information, and I accidently repeated a part I already said in its place. However I did not falter too much in that transition and just rolled with the information.
2. What assessment would you give yourself on your lesson? Explain why you earned that grade using evidence from the component contract.
  • I would give myself a "P",based on the contract. Based on some of the commendations I received  most generally stated how I enunciated well and maintained good eye contact. I also noticed that I wasn't too nervous so my body language was very calm and I felt I did a fairly basic job of engaging my audience. I cited at least one source,  however I should have cited more instead of just stating all my information. Considering all this I felt I met the requirements outlined in the contract. I know I didn't go above and beyond, so hopefully after experiencing my first lesson, I can take what worked and didn't work and use it in the future to adapt my next lesson.
3. If you could go back, what would you change about your lesson?  How can you use that knowledge to give a better Lesson 2?
  • If I could go back I would definitely work on my visuals. Allot of the recommendations I received were on my visuals, not being so great. So next time I will work to improve this and make them neater, as well as flow in a concise manner. I will probably print the text or make a poster board, to allow for this neatness. I will also bring more props and dress as the profession I am researching. Using all the knowledge I gained from the recommendations I know what areas I need to fix and how I can make lesson 2 all that much better.
