Blog 16: Independent Component 2 Approval

1.  Describe in detail what you plan to do for your 30 hours.

• For Independent Component #2 I am going to be taking an online forensics course through The National Institute of Justice. The course comprises of four parts or modules including types of evidence, advanced crime scene methods, evidence collection, and CODIS. Each little module has about a million little different sub categories. For example the advanced crime scene module covers topics such as Conveyance Crime Scenes, Locating Evidence, Documentation, and Seven Step Protocol. (Just to name a few) Each module also has little mini quizzes in between lessons, where you get asked a question. The computer logs your scores as well as your progress through the course, at the end upon completion a certificate is given to you.

2.  Discuss how or what you will do to meet the expectation of showing 30 hours of evidence.

• In order to show evidence of 30 hours of work  I will similar to last time show screenshots of my personal notes taken from the course. I will also practice some of the techniques given for processing crime scenes, so I will take pictures of myself doing such. I will also post a picture of my certificate proving I have completed the course.

3.  Explain how this component will help you explore your topic in more depth.

• This component will help me explore my topic more in depth because it is a course for more advanced students. The course assumes that students have an existing foundation knowledge on forensics, which I do, and then expands on it. Which basically means this course is not an introductory course. Why I chose this course versus the other ones is because one it was more advanced and I didn't want to learn about stuff I already knew. My last point two is because this course goes over all of my answers for my EQ (Fingerprinting, Technology, and Photography) which I know will either confirm my answer choices or dispose of them. Two of my EQ answers I really like, however one of them I am really tentative on, and by completing this course I will be able to determine the impact of technology in relation to crime scene investigation.
