The man I interviewed is pictured above. His name is Tony Barbosa and he is a Detective for the Brea Police. |
What is the most important thing I learned from the interview? Is there anything I would do differently for other interviews?
- One of the most important things I learned from this interview is about what kind of person it takes to go into this field work. This includes Police Officers, Detectives, Crime Scene Investigators, etc. You definitely can't be the hero type, and you can't go into this job expecting to be super rich. I was very surprised by this when my interviewee said this, but once he explained I understood. This kind of work is very selfless and requires a certain kind of person because the job is so demanding of you. Whether it's Christmas, or your child's birthday the job does not care. For other interviews I definitely want to be less nervous and ask more follow up questions to what the interviewee is saying. This was my first time interviewing so next time I know what to expect, what not to do and will be better prepared. Also next time I won't stop recording until the interview is positively over, because even as my last question was asked my interviewee and I kept on talking about other CSI topics.
Did I get additional resources and contacts? What is the most useful? Why?
- I did receive additional resources and contacts from my interviewee. Mr. Barbosa gave me his contact information and stated if I needed to talk to Forensic Investigators, or a homicide detective he would get me in touch with them. This was probably the most useful source because communicating with people and hearing what they have to say is a good way to learn more about my topic. Also Mr. Barbosa recommend I get in touch with my local police department for tours, and maybe even a ride along.
What makes my interviewee qualifies to help me?
- My interviewee is highly qualified to help me with my senior project. This is because he used to be a Homicide Detective, and now he still does detective work but just not in homicide. With many years doing police work and being a Detective he has worked very closely with many Crime Scene Investigators. So during the interview he was able to talk to me sort of about the different positions of crime scene investigation and what each position brings to the table. As well as some of his experiences with crime scene investigators.
